Pianist Angelina Tallaj was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic where she displayed a natural talent at an early age, performing extensively and winning many awards and competitions. Since moving to Brooklyn, New York, Tallaj,
who earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Brooklyn College, has studied with Michael Rogers, Agustín Anievas, and Germán Diez. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Ethnomusicology at the City University
Graduate Center where she is the recipient of the prestigious MAGNET fellowship.
Tallaj’s recent concerto performances include the Schumann Concerto with the Kingsborough Symphony Orchestra, the Mendelssohn Concerto with the Dominican Republic’s Cibao Symphony Orchestra, and the Grieg Concerto throughout Puerto Rico and with The Orchestra Celebrate! at Lincoln Center.
In addition to the traditional piano repertoire, she enjoys performing the music of Latin America. As an ethnomusicologist, Tallaj has presented her research at many conferences on Dominican and Latin American music.
