Mezzo soprano Anna Tonna has sung with Opera Illinois, New Jersey State Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera and Teatro Grattacielo (Lincoln Center) in New York City’s Town Hall. Recent engagements include a recital at the Casals Festival of Puerto Rico, and in Spain in productions of La Cenerentola and Cosí fan tutte as well as the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid in a concert version of Albeniz’s The Magic Opal. She bowed as Adalgisa (Norma) and Carmen (Carmen) in Teatro Compac Gran Via and reprised Adalgisa with the Fundación Lírica de Antioquía in Colombia, in September 2009.
As a Fulbright Scholar to Spain (2007-2008), she did an investigation of twentieth-century Spanish song repertoire at La Fundación Juan March in Madrid, realizing her musical studies with the distinguished pianists Miguel Zanetti and Jorge Robaina from La Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid and the eminent Spanish music critic and writer, Carlos Gómez Amat.
She will appear in the North American Premiere of Giordano’s Il Re in New York’s Lincoln Center in 2011.
